MBA = Done !
I have succesfully completed 54 credits required to finish the MBA graduate program from Robert H Smith school of business with a GPA of 3.73. The experience is immense and deep that I am afraid any simple statemement of how I now feel standing as a gradaute might underestimate the effort and the persistance that it takes to complete the program.
It took a total of four years, the first year for GMAT, TOEFL, and Applications and the following three years for the program itself. The first one and half years are for the core courses, and the rest half of the program is for the electives. I immensely enjoyed the electives and I found that they are much more of value than the core courses. On the other hand , I am not sure if I would have appreicated the electives as much as I did if not for the core courses. Staying with a cohort for one and half year helped me form some friendships which made forming project teams easier. Forming teams in the electives portion is bit tricky cause I did not know most of the class and pitching to be part of a team felt awkward sometimes.
Life has not stopped as I pursued education, there is death in the immediate family and I had a son while I was pursuing the course.The course work was manageble and I constantly put 8 -10 hours of work a day in all these years. I was juggling job, education, family and I am glad that I did not break down .
My top 3 favourite courses were :
Global economic environment, Games of Strategy, Data models and decisions.
Global economic environment: Being into science and technology since childhood, I never developed liking for economics.But global economic environment is a course which I instantly liked. It just layed out how the international commerce work ? how the currency fluctions happen? As I am dual citizen of USA and India, may be I connected to the course now.
Games of Strategy: I just LOVE this course. It taught me the difference between decision making and strategic moves. How other rational player is completely free and how the opposition move might effect my action. When do we compete, and when do we cooperate ? Can synergies happen at all in a competitve environment ?
Data Models and Decisions: The power of data, the regression models, how data is gathered and sythesized. Now I know how to read the news that summarizes the studies done by various research organizations.
My least favourite course is:
Social responsibility : This subject taught by a lawyer, just went on and on. Its more of the style than the substance that I hated about. If at all there is one key that I took away from this course that is " I have to be a good buyer" .
