Icebreakers -My Journey

Today in my article 'My Journey',I try to take you to few of the places I lived and my life experiences at these places. So embrace yourself and join me for a ride.

Currently I am living in herndon with my husband and my daughter who is 9 months of age,she is very adorable and apple of my eye.I spend most of the time apart from work
with her.I am a software engineer by profession. I moved to virigina 2 years back when I got married and since then have been living here.

Life before marriage was good too,I had the privilege of living by myself for a while before getting married(which many girls from my country dont get)
in differnet places both in India and America.Living away from parents and by myself gave me an oppurtunity to take few risks ,explore
life and learn some lessons which I will cherish for rest of my life.

I used to work as a contractor in Dallas and lived there for about 2 years before moving to virginia.Being a contractor I had a chance to work at several
places ,I had to acclimatise in various environments and adjust to the environment as soon as I can and start being productive which helped to learn how to
make better use of time.
It also helped me to learn new technologies to withstand the compitetion,it changed the way I considered work till then.
I use to consider my day job as source of income,I never tried to raise above my role, just try to complete what I was given. But being a contractor I had to
stay ahead of the crowd ,draw my own strategies in life to withstand and resist.I learnt my first important lesson in life,
with hardwork and dedication one can achieve anything and withstand any kind of competition.

Apart from that I learnt how to drive,I had to enroll in driving classes
I spent about 800$ to get my drivers license. My husband still laughs about it.He learnt it for free from his friends at his school where he persued his masters.
I did not have that luxary and I always think being a student in this country is easier than being single working woman for a beginner like me.

When I first came to this country everyone around me was calculating calories how much they eat etc.. I found it ridiculous at the beginning ,I never counted anything
like this when I was a kid or as a grown up in India. At the clients place in dallas we use to get few soda, placed in the kitchen for the employees.I used to drink one
can of mountain dew every afternoon, getting re-assurance from life minded friends who never considered calories. Slowly I have realised that I am piling up those calories
My dresses arent fitting anymore, then I realised that yes I indeed need to count the calories I take.

The second important lesson for my stay here.Watch out what you eat.
So I enrolled in a gym and decided I better be cautious about what I eat.

One evening I was returning from gym and it got dark and I just parked my car and suddenly I felt some
one was there right behind me ,that is when I realised that I was being mugged for money.I lost my wallet which carried some money and my credit cards, thats when I made my first
911 call. Next day I got a call from a detective saying that he was assigned on my case. Ofcourse that dint still get solved, thats a different story.I learnt an another
importnat lesson in life, be cautious, gauge your surroundings ,if you are alone, try to alert roomates or husband or anyone who might be at home that time.Take full advantage
of the technology have cellphone handy.

Before living in Dallas I lived for about 6 months in chicago, and used to work & live in downtown.I actually landed in Chicago during winter, beginning of feb.
Coming directly from my homeland India where the temp is usually hot,I found chicagos weather very very cold. The small 3 minutes walk to the subway was itself
a herculean task in that windy city .But it remains as one of the most glamorous cities I have ever lived so far. My apartment had this huge window which opens to the
skyline and sipping a hot cup of tea was the most savoured moment of my entire day .Gosh! I am reliving the moments right now :)

Before coming to US,I worked in chennai for about 2 years.Chennai which was more popularly knows as Madras,is one of the 4 metropliton cities in India.
The best part about my stay in Chennai was I used to live by the beech, like about 2 minutes walk from my house.Thats the closest I have ever lived to a beach.
I guess since I was so close to the beach, the tap water is salty water. There just use to be one tap in the whole house which supplied drinking water.
The best part about chennai is the city still preserves its culture and I have met few foriengers who have come to learn Bharathanatyam a classical dance form well know in India.
A walk in chennai's downtown you are swirled with aroma of coffee coming out of the restaurants.I could hear students learning music in my neighbourhood.I lived there for about
an year and half in that city and thoroughly enjoyed the place.

I happend to visit this state for a 3-month training as a fresher from college. Like virginia being called "lovers state ' ,This state in India is called 'Gods Own Country'.It has back
waters from the sea and people in rural areas commute by small boats. Few indiviudals own elephants in this state. There are also house boats here. Right after our marriage,me and my husband
went to kerala stayed at differnt places and also lived in a house boat. Its like a two bedroom apartment on a boat with kitchen and everything. There are tea gardens there
as its manily hilly area, acres and acres of tea gardens delights the visual senses. There are many hill resorts and living in these resorts is like living amid clouds. You dont always have to
be in the aeroplane to see and feel the clouds. I also had the oppurtunity of getting a Ayurvedic oil massage during my stay ..For nature lovers like me Kerala is a perfect place to visit.

I tried to take you to few important places I have been and how they had an influence on me.I hope that for people who had lived in any of these places,I took you back there and for those
who havent visited these places yet,I have introduced you to new places which you can plan to visit.
